Why Choose PEEK for Automation?
| Requirement in Automation | PEEK Advantage | Quantitative Evidence | Alternative (Metal / Other Plastic) |
| High-speed reciprocating motion | Low inertia due to low density (1.32 g/cm³) | 70% lighter than steel → 40% less drive torque needed | Aluminum (2.7 g/cm³) – heavier, higher inertia |
| Lubricant-starved or dry-running conditions | Self-lubricating (low coefficient of friction: 0.28–0.35 against steel) | Reduces maintenance intervals by up to 60% in linear guides | Bronze – requires oil; POM – lower HDT (heat deflection) |
| Wide thermal range in cleanrooms / ovens | Excellent dimensional stability (CTE: 1.2–1.6 × 10⁻⁵ /°C up to 150°C) | Maintains ISO 5 clearance fit from ambient to 120°C | Nylon 6/6 – absorbs moisture → swells; Stainless – heavier |
| Electrical insulation in sensor housings | High dielectric strength (19–22 kV/mm) and volume resistivity >10¹⁵ Ω·cm | Prevents stray current interference in proximity sensors | Ceramic – brittle; FR4 – poor impact resistance |
How We Translate Material Properties into Reliable Parts
Complex Geometries, One Setup
- We use 5-axis simultaneous CNC machining centers (Hermle and DMG MORI) to machine PEEK components with undercuts, deep blind holes, and thin-wall sections (down to 0.8 mm thickness) in a single clamping operation.
- Benefit to you: Eliminates cumulative fixturing errors – critical for parts with multiple locating features (e.g., mounting flanges + precision bore) that interface with other automation modules.
PEEK-Specific Toolpath & Cooling Strategy
- PEEK’s low thermal conductivity (0.25 W/m·K) means heat concentrates at the cutting edge. We use:
- Polished diamond-coated carbide tools with optimized rake angles to reduce built-up edge.
- Through-spindle coolant (oil-based, 5-bar pressure) to maintain chip evacuation and control local temperature rise within ±2°C, preventing stress whitening or micro-cracks.
- Result: Achieved surface finishes of Ra 0.8 μm on sealing surfaces and ±0.005 mm on critical dowel pin holes – verified in-process.
Environmental Control for Thermal Stability
- All machining and inspection are performed in a temperature-controlled shop (22°C ± 1°C) . Since PEEK’s CTE is ~5× that of steel, this environment ensures that room-temperature measurements correlate directly to your equipment’s operating baseline.
