PEI Machining Capabilities

Welcome to Leland Technologies, your trusted partner for high-performance PEI machining capabilities. Our state-of-the-art CNC machines and experienced team of engineers and technicians enable us to produce high-precision, complex parts with tight tolerances and exceptional surface finishes, using PEI, a high-performance engineering thermoplastic.

PEI characteristic

PEI (Polyetherimide) is a high-strength amorphous polymer often branded as ULTEM.
Characterized by excellent heat and flame resistance with a flammability rating of 94-V-0, ULTEM can perform continuously up to 340°F (171°C). ULTEM is also hydrolysis resistant, as well as highly resistant to most acidic solutions.
ULTEM is commonly used for a variety of structural components requiring high strength and rigidity at elevated temperatures
Additionally, ULTEM has one of the lowest thermal conductivity ratings and the highest dielectric properties of thermoplastic materials, outperforming both Nylon and DELRIN.
PEI has excellent heat and flame resistance and the highest dielectric strength of any thermoplastic.

Advantages of PEI CNC Machining

High Temperature Resistance

PEEK can operate at temperatures up to 250°C (482°F) without losing its mechanical properties.

Chemical Resistance

PEEK is resistant to a wide range of chemicals, making it suitable for use in harsh environments.

Mechanical Strength

It has high tensile strength, stiffness, and impact resistance, which makes it ideal for demanding applications

Dimensional Stability

PEEK maintains its shape and size under mechanical stress and thermal conditions.

Biocompatibility

PEEK is biocompatible, making it suitable for medical implants and other healthcare applications.

Considerations for CNC Machining PEI

Tool Selection

Use high-quality, sharp carbide or diamond-coated tools to achieve precise cuts and extend tool life.

Feed Rate and Speed

Optimizing the feed rate and spindle speed is crucial to avoid overheating and potential material deformation.

Coolant Usage

Proper coolant application can help dissipate heat, prevent material melting, and improve surface finish.

Chip Removal

Effective chip removal is essential to avoid recutting chips, which can affect surface quality and tool life.

Surface Finish

PEEK can achieve a good surface finish with proper machining parameters, but post-machining processes like polishing may be required for critical applications.
