CNC Machining Material

Our team has years of experience working with engineering plastics such as UHMW, nylon, PTFE, Delrin, and PEEK. Every component is produced under strict quality control to ensure the highest level of consistency and performance. From prototypes to small-batch production, we deliver precision plastic machining that supports industries including medical, aerospace, automotive, and electronics.

CNC Machining Surface Finishes

Plastic parts produced by machining often require surface treatments to improve their appearance, durability, and functionality. In practice, the selection of surface treatment depends on plastic type、requirement properties and application environment.the main categories of treatments include:

Mechanical FinishingPolishing / Buffing – smoothens the surface and improves transparency (important for acrylic/PC)
Sanding / Abrasive blasting– controls roughness, prepares the surface for coatings or bonding.
Vapor polishing – especially for polycarbonate and acrylic to achieve optical clarity.
Chemical TreatmentsEtching / Chemical texturing – alters surface gloss or adds micro-patterns.
Solvent smoothing – melts the outer layer slightly for a glossy, uniform finish.
Coatings & PaintingSpray painting – provides color, aesthetics, and limited protection.
Powder coating (special plastics only) – less common, requires heat resistance.
UV coatings – increase weather and scratch resistance.
Electrostatic painting – for uniform surface finish on ABS and similar plastics.
Plating & MetallizationElectroless plating (nickel, copper, chrome) – applied to ABS and PC/ABS blends after special surface activation; improves conductivity, shielding, and aesthetics.
Vacuum metallization – deposits aluminum or other metals for decorative or reflective purposes.
Sputtering / PVD coatings – thin metal or ceramic layers for wear resistance and decorative effect.
Thermal Surface ProcessesFlame polishing – melts and smooths transparent plastics like acrylic.
Laser texturing / engraving – creates permanent patterns, logos, or textures.
Functional TreatmentsAnti-static / Conductive coatings – reduce static buildup.
Hydrophobic / Oleophobic coatings – improve resistance to water and oil.
EMI/RFI shielding – achieved by conductive coatings or plating

CNC Machining Tolerance

Our CNC machining capabilities deliver precision tolerances down to ±0.01mm, adhering to ISO 2768-mK standards for dimensional consistency. This ensures seamless component mating and optimal functional performance across all machined parts.

Design Guidelines for CNC Machining

Optimize your designs for CNC manufacturability with our expert guidelines. Our engineering team provides DFM (Design for Manufacturing) feedback to ensure optimal performance, cost efficiency, and precision in custom machined parts.

RadiiIn CNC machining, sharp internal corners on a workpiece will naturally form rounded corners (radii). The depth must not exceed 12 times the diameter of the drill. For end mills, the depth must not exceed 10 times the diameter of the tool.
Threads and Tapped HolesDiameter Φ 1.5-5 mm, depth: 3 times the diameter.
Diameter Φ 5 mm or larger, depth: 4-6 times the diameter.
RapidDirect can produce threads of any specification and size as required by the customer.
UndercutsSquare profiles, full radius, dovetail profiles.
TextCNC Milling: Minimum width of 0.5 mm and depth of 0.1 mm.
CNC Turning: RapidDirect can use laser marking to create standard text for CNC turned parts.
RapidDirect can create standard text via CNC engraving or laser engraving as per customer requirements.Description
